Summer 2022 Camp Themes!
1. ART IS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Can you draw the World’s Fastest Line? The Slowest? Scratchiest? Wettest? We kick off camp flexing our skills in noticing, being present, and trusting our senses and perception as we make marks in our sketchbooks and beyond. Attentive living as an artist begins!
Afternoon Media Focus: Sketchbooking
Mornings will feature multiple media and surface materials, while afternoon this week we dive deep into our very own personal sketchbook. This to me will be where we develop sparks of ideas and build ourselves while we’re at it.
2. ART IS IN YOUR HOME
What is the oldest item in your house? What is your family’s most legendary story? Could you make a painting of yourself… without including You in the picture? In this week’s camp adventure, we work on researching our artifacts, storytelling, listening, mapping, and more as the campers study forming self.
Afternoon Media Focus: Painting
Morning projects will feature multiple materials, while afternoons will be an exploration of paint, paint, and more paint. Watercolor, acrylic, and many ways they can be applied. Dress accordingly.
3. ART IS IN YOUR HEAD
What ideas can’t be seen? Could every wonderful thought be combined into one universe? How can wind, gravity, and more add to your art? This week, our explorers tap into their biggest and smallest intuitions as inspirations for art.
Afternoon Media Focus: Kinetic Sculpture
Mornings will have multiple media, while in afternoons we will focus on art that moves! Air, gravity and other aspects of physics will be explored in the art that shakes, rattles and rolls. And maybe flies. And falls. And crashes? You get the idea.
4. ART IS IN YOUR BACKYARD
Can you jump outside your head for a fresh point of view? Can foam and ink form a masterpiece? In this very popular week, we learn from wildly different perspectives on people and art-making. Expect to find new textures and possibilities in your art, while building your empathy and appreciation of differences.
Afternoon Media Focus: Printmaking
The morning will feature assorted media, while the afternoon will focus on several kinds of printmaking. Carve in foam! Squish ink! Press that print! A super tactile and satisfying week.
5. ART IS WHERE YOU LEAST EXPECT IT
Can trash become art? What kind of art happens just beyond your control? In this week’s camp, our art adventurers will explore creating surprises, getting the most out of the process of play. These lessons help form adaptable humans ready for any opportunity, in art and otherwise.
Afternoon Media Focus: Collage and Found Objects
Camp producer and collage artist Derek Gores will lead some of the prompts in this exciting week full of surreal surprises. Oh, THAT can be art?!
6. ART IS IN THE WILD
Do ants need playgrounds? Is a leaf already a masterpiece of art? Can art last only a brief moment? Explore natural wonders and learn to be attuned to the world in pursuit of your art. We will study systems, patterns, and incredible moments found in nature – while learning to care for our world and ecosystems as well.
Afternoon Media Focus: Fibre Art
Mornings will feature a variety of media, while in the PM we have a chance for a deep dive into fibre arts both natural and synthetic, including yarns, strings, and several surprises.
7. ART IS OUT THERE
What’s the world’s weirdest idea? Do you know what you don’t know? And can that make our Best Art Yet? This grand finale week the young artists go off the deep end into dreaming, imagining what’s possible – while forming their most unique art and self.
Afternoon Media Focus: 3D
Mornings will feature lots of media, while afternoons we reallllly get physical, exploring sculptural art with a variety of materials.
