From Florida Today: Muscle Memory Long Pic

MELBOURNE — On Friday night, something pretty spectacular happened at the Derek Gores Gallery: organizers call it “Muscle Memory;” I called it “live art.”

They described the show as a collaboration of dance and art mixed with multimedia. I didn’t know what to expect. As soon as I walked through the doors, I was immersed in the live art experience.

The event featured live models in front of pieces of art, which, throughout the night came to life in a dance performances.

Muscle Memory

The audience had an upfront and personal interaction with the art and dancers, which featured Patrick Gerstle from Bad Boy of Dance, Frankie Freeman of Atlanta, who appeared last season on Fox’s reality competition “So You Think You Can Dance,” and Jessie Schneider of Marymount University in New York City, to name a few.

“Muscle Memory” showcased the work of Mikael Maynard, visual artist Arianna Gangi, Julia Pontones, floral artist Ann Petrosky, Jaylyn Marie, visual artist Dave Thomas, Electrika Bleu, visual artist Derek Gores and many others.

One of the night’s biggest highlights was when the hip-hop/break-dancing group performed in the dark with strobe lights and neo paint. The crowd went nuts, and so did I.

The event was a total live experience of the art culture, drawing quite a diverse group of attendees.

Held in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne, if EGAD continues to bring this kind of stuff to Brevard, I will be there a lot more often.

And so should you.

Some of the proceeds from the show go to the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation.
